“The whole energy in a record store is just super inspiring. I feel at home. It’s really an unexplainable feeling to hit up a shop and dig through crates, just see what grabs your eye.” – Post Malone, Record Store Day Ambassador 2025
Record Store Day Ambassador as we take just a very brief look at the more than 300 titles coming to record stores on April 12 as part of the holiday celebrating the culture of the indie record stores. Post Malone Tribute To Nirvana, brings his legendary 2020 livestream performance of Nirvana covers– alongside blink-182’s Travis Barker on drums, guitarist Nick Mack and bassist Brian Lee- to vinyl for the first time. And in a move that befits an ambassador, 100% of net proceeds in connection with the sale of this vinyl will be donated to MusiCares’ Addiction Recovery/Mental Health division*.
But that’s not the only place Posty shows up on the 2025 List. His fellow Ambassador Taylor Swift (RSD 2022) releases their collaboration track, “Fortnight” on a double-sided 7” vinyl single, extending her run of Record Store Day releases which have included “the lakes” 7” single (RSD 2022) and folklore: the long pond studio sessions (RSD 2023)
A special “Record Store Day Song Of The Year” tag has been given to singles on a few previous Lists (calling out special songs done by Paul McCartney/St Vincent, and Pearl Jam). This April the Record Store Day Song Of The Year logo is on a double A-sided 12” of “Be Here Now”, done by the song’s author, George Harrison, on one side, with Beck’s recent cover tribute on the other.
There are some exciting live releases on The List, including two that capture bright young artists in performance at legendary venues. A Night at the Symphony: Hollywood Bowl is the soundtrack of the debut concert film from Icelandic-Chinese artist Laufey. The Record Store Day release, on double vinyl with a limited-edition poster, captures the magic and energy of the evening as Laufey takes the audience on a spellbinding sonic journey accompanied by the lush strings, brass, woodwinds, and percussion of the world-renowned Los Angeles Philharmonic. Gracie Abrams: Live From Radio City Music Hall brings Gracie Abrams’ breathtaking performances at Radio City Music Hall and puts them on double vinyl for fans to relive all over again. MJ Lenderman’s And The Wind (Live and Loose!) and beabadoobee’s Live And Acoustic in London will be a welcome sight for the many record store customers who are also massive fans.
Legendary musicians have also been captured live as part of the celebration, including Sting, whose Sting Live 3.0 is a double album Greatest Hits package, including a few tracks that never been released in live editions before. And if you weren’t at Madison Square Garden on October 1, 2022 you missed Bruce Springsteen stepping out for a collaboration with The Killers. But now you can be, as that set comes to vinyl as a 12” EP. David Bowie’s legendary (and ahead of its time) 2003 worldwide livestream event, beamed to 55,000 fans in cinemas across the globe, and introducing his then-new album Reality, becomes a record in its own right, coming April 12 on both vinyl and CD.
Also coming on both vinyl and CD is the More EP, brand new music from The Wallows. In fact, more titles than ever are also being released on CD, a format that record stores also embrace year-round. Another format they champion? The 7” single. That short, sweet hit of music is a perfect Record Store Day take-away, a great reminder of the day you spent celebrating your brick-and-mortar spot. Plenty to choose from on the List, including singles from Tom Waits, Waxahatchee, Panda Bear, De La Soul and some exciting collaborations: Charli XCX and Billie Eilish, YUNGBLUD and Lil Yachty, and Omar Apollo, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross on “Te Maldigo” a track from the soundtrack of the A24 film Queer.
Soundtracks are all over the list too, with special editions and long awaited pressings of the music that makes films as diverse as Harry Potter and The Sorceror’s Stone (and three other films about The Boy Who Lived), The Serpent and the Rainbow, Top Secret!, Wicked, Cannibal Ferox, and High Anxiety/Mel Brooks’ Greatest Hits. And there’s Original Soundtracks 1 (30th Anniversary Edition), a record from Passengers (also known as U2 and Brian Eno) comprised of soundtracks for imaginary films.
Jazz aficionados have come to expect some fantastic titles to be unearthed for Record Store Day and they won’t disappointed with this year’s offerings from likes of Pharaoh Sanders, Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus, Gerry Mulligan, and the Vince Guaraldi Trio.
That goes for fans of rap and hip-hop as well, with titles on the List from Cypress Hill, Craig Mack, Freddie Gibbs, Anderson .Paak, Snoop Dogg, and Ice-T. And one of the coolest releases we’ve ever had: Black Samson, The Bastard Swordsman: Wu-Tang, The Saga Continues Collection from Wu-Tang and Mathematics. A brand -new album from Wu Tang, produced by Mathematics, a collection of songs featuring fellow members of the iconic Wu-Tang Clan as well as other artists. This 2 LP set is an authenticated and numbered limited edition Mixprint ™ release. Every album jacket features unique “1 of 1” cover art, making each design truly distinct and highly collectible – a first in the vinyl record industry. These covers are created through a harmonious blend of hand-crafted artistry, proprietary technology (without the use of A.I.) and advanced printing techniques.
“Old school” physical formats, and art that incorporates cutting-edge technology. It all comes together at record stores on April 12 as we celebrate Record Store Day.
